Weather Update: Outbreak of cold wave in North India in next two days, chances of rain this week

New Delhi: Dense fog extended into a cold day in northern India on Tuesday with low visibility in many areas amid forecast of rain in the national capital and adjoining areas this week.

In an early morning tweet, the India Meteorological Department said, “Isolated areas in Uttar Pradesh (Bareilly, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Varanasi and Allahabad 50 meters each; Agra, Lucknow and Gorakhpur 200 meters each) and Bihar (Gaya 50). There is thick fog. m and Purnia 200 m) and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal (Bagdogra 100 m).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted rain in Delhi-NCR from Friday night onwards due to the influence of a Western Disturbance over North India.

Rain likely over Punjab, Haryana and neighboring areas

In its weather forecast, IMD said, “During January 21 to 23, very widespread rain is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan.”

Isolated hailstorm is also likely over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh on the night of 21st and 22nd January.

Cold wave will continue for next two days

“Cold wave conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan during the next two days”, the IMD said.

The freshly active Western Disturbance will affect Northwest India from January 21, predicted the IMD.

As a result of the Western Disturbance, the sky will remain cloudy and the minimum temperature will reach 13 degree Celsius. “Day temperature will remain low due to rain over entire North India, Rajasthan, Haryana”, Genmani told news agency ANI.

Cold to severe cold conditions are forecast over Northwest and Central India during the next 24 hours and will gradually reduce thereafter. IMD scientist Jenamani said that due to the effect of western disturbance, the weather will improve from January 19.

The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature is likely to increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius over Northwest India during the next five days.

Kashmir Weather, a private forecasting portal, has predicted that light rain/snow may occur at many places in Kashmir division and at few places in Jammu division between Monday and Tuesday morning.
