Weather Update: IMD Predicts Fresh Spell Of Heatwave, Rise In Temperature by 2-3 Degrees Celsius

New Delhi: The country will again witness heat wave conditions today and the maximum temperature will increase by 2-4 degree Celsius over parts of peninsular India during next 5 days. Under the influence of extremely severe cyclonic storm ‘Mocha’, there is a possibility of heavy rains in the northeastern states of the country.

Heatwave in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave conditions in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha and the maximum temperature will be 5-6 degrees above normal. Heatwave will engulf West Rajasthan and the maximum temperature is expected to be above 45 degree Celsius.


The Meteorological Department has predicted a fresh spell of heat wave over East India, especially Gangetic West Bengal, during May 15-16. Heat wave conditions are also likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha during May 15-17.

IMD predicts rise in temperature

According to IMD, maximum temperature is likely to increase over most parts of the country, with central India likely to increase by 2-3°C during next 2 days. In South India, maximum temperatures are very likely to increase by 2-4 degrees over most parts of the region during next 5 days, while no significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over East India.

Meanwhile, under the influence of Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘MOCHA’, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during May 14-17.
