On the other hand, 83 people have died in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra between June 1 and July 10, the state disaster management authority said in a report on Monday. The report said that 164 animals have also died in rain-related incidents during the same period.
The Meteorological Department on Monday issued a ‘red alert’ in seven districts of Maharashtra regarding heavy rains. A warning of ‘heavy to very heavy rain’ was issued in Palghar, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur and Gadchiroli.
Mumbai received heavy rains for four consecutive days last week, but light to moderate rains are occurring.
In other news, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will visit the worst-hit Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts from Tuesday.
