Wear face mask 24×7, even inside homes: Worried over Covid spike, Mizoram government launches campaign

Worried over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases being reported daily for over a month, the Mizoram government has launched a statewide campaign to re-sensitize citizens on the importance of wearing masks to combat the virus.

State Health Minister R. Lalthangliana launched a 10-day ‘All Mask’ campaign in Aizawl on Tuesday. Scheduled to run till October 20, it will be implemented in all districts by the respective Deputy Commissioners and CMOs.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said that the campaign has been launched on the advice of a state-level expert team on COVID-19 management, which was constituted on 23rd September due to increase in the number of cases and deaths related to Covid-19. was done between in the state.

Convener Dr. F. A 16-point recommendation was recently submitted to the state government by a team led by Lallianhalira. An aggressive educational awareness campaign on masks was one of the major recommendations.

Other important points to be followed by the citizens during the campaign are:

• Wearing a mask indoors at all times except when eating.

• Not eating dinner together at the table and opting for a buffet meal instead.

• Wearing of masks at all times in offices/work areas.

• Be more careful when washing hands and using sanitizers.

According to the state-level expert team on COVID-19 management, one of the main factors behind the rising COVID-19 cases in the state is people’s reluctance or carelessness towards COVID-19 appropriate behaviour. Masks should be used at workplaces, regular hand washing and cabs should also be strictly followed during the campaign.

Mizoram on Monday reported 307 new Covid-19 cases, its lowest in a month since August 24 and four more fatalities.
