In the post-earnings press conference, Saurabh Govil, president and chief human resources officer, said, “The demand environment is active and we will continue to base demand. On inventory, we need to improve our utilization. We need to look at hiring going forward.” The focus has to be on the entire supply chain. As business comes back and we see growth, we will continue to hire people.”

He added that in the last quarter, Wipro added about 5,000 employees, mainly engineers.

On headcount decline in Q4 FY23, Thierry Delaporte, CEO & Managing Director, Wipro, said, “There is a risk of looking at headcount on a quarterly basis. Three-four quarters ago, we had a big increase in our headcount and our utilization came down, which impacted our margins… On a quarterly basis, you don’t see the impact. We will continue to recruit. Also, the conflict is going down, we have to keep that in mind as well.”

On variable pay, Wipro is organized where people get paid based on individual performance across units. “Overall, it will be above 80 percent.”

Wipro’s voluntary exits during the March 2023 quarter declined by 330 bps compared to the previous quarter, at 14.1 per cent on a quarterly annual basis and 19.2 per cent on a trailing twelve month basis.

The total employee strength of the company as on March 31, 2023 was 2,56,921.

Wipro on Thursday reported a net profit of Rs 3,074.5 crore for the March 2023 quarter, almost at par with Rs 3,087.3 crore posted in the same period last year. Its revenue from operations during January-March 2023, however, grew 11.17 per cent to Rs 23,190.3 crore from Rs 20,860 crore a year ago. Net profit is attributable to the equity holders of the company.

According to a BSE filing, the company’s total expenses during Q4 FY23 stood at Rs 19,531.6 crore as compared to Rs 17,457.1 crore a year ago.
