Sunrisers Hyderabad have now lost five matches in this IPL and are currently at the ninth position in the points table

Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered their third consecutive defeat in IPL 2023 on Monday. SRH went down to Delhi Capitals in a low-scoring battle.

Disappointed with the result, SRH skipper Aiden Markram pinned the blame on the batting department, which failed to chase down the 145-run target.

Speaking to the broadcaster after the match, Markram underlined the Hyderabad batsmen’s lack of intent to win the game, which according to him resulted in the defeat. “We weren’t good with the bat again, didn’t have enough intent. It looked like we weren’t really excited about winning the game,” said the South African star.

To overcome the persistent batting failure, Markram said he needed to get back to basics.

“We have to go back to the drawing board and start planning again. We wanted to play a certain brand of cricket but unfortunately we are disappointing ourselves with the bat,” the Hyderabad skipper explained.

When asked about his impact on the team, Markram spoke about the good bonding he has with the players. He said he is enjoying the leadership role and likes to boost the confidence of his teammates when needed.

Furthermore, Markram praised the Hyderabad bowlers for putting up a commendable performance against Delhi. The skipper was quick to admit, “Tonight, our bowling unit didn’t deserve to lose. I’m really proud of the bowlers and that’s the only positive thing we can take out of this game.”

SRH bowlers were on top of their form and Delhi scored 144 runs in 20 overs.

Washington Sundar was brilliant during his four-over spell as the all-rounder picked up three crucial wickets in a single over, bringing the Capitals to their knees. Among others, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged two wickets while T Natarajan bagged one wicket.

Chasing what seemed an easy target, Hyderabad faced a very similar situation on a bowling-friendly surface. Only four batsmen of the team managed to break the double digit mark. Mayank Agarwal was their standout performer as he scored 49 off 39 balls.

Heinrich Klaasen and Sundar displayed their big hitting late in the chase but could not take them across the winning line as they fell 7 runs short of the required score.
