We don’t play the blame game in our franchise, says RR team director Kumar Sangakkara

Kumar Sangakkara does not believe in the blame game as both success and failure are of a collective nature, the Rajasthan Royals team director said after another disappointing performance from his side, which severely affected his team. IPL Play-off hopes.

The Royals put on another poor batting performance after the Delhi Capitals game, leading Royal Challengers Bangalore to victory. The Royals are now seventh in the eight-team table.

“We don’t play the blame game in our franchise. We win together, we lose together. We haven’t done well enough, haven’t been smart enough with our batting and we all know that. Players know this. So, we’ll try to keep things simple, focus on training and how we plan to execute on what we’ve talked about,” Sangakkara said at the post-match media conference.

“We always keep things simple. There is a lot of pressure on the players that they put on themselves. In the game itself, there is a lot of pressure,” Sangakkara said.

For Sangakkara, his job is to guide the team rather than burden them.

“My job is not to add anything to it, but to guide them on how to deal with it and give my best,” he said.

Sangakkara believes that managing volatility requires a different approach.

“There are many ways in which you manage the high levels of frustrations of winning and losing and being able to keep yourself calm and focused on what needs to be done.

“At times like this, it is very easy to get frustrated and break into small groups where rumblings can start, but our group has put together really well,” said the Sri Lankan batsman.

The former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper also heaped praise on skipper Sanju Samson, saying that he will be picked in the national team for a long time.

“Yeah, we chat face-to-face on a lot of things. And when it comes to cricket, India’s aspirations come at a time when the IPL is over. And our chats are very much IPL-centric. Not only about his (Samson’s) batting but about the captaincy, about the team and how we are playing.”

Samson, who has scored 452 runs this season, is the highest run-scorer for his franchise.

“He (Samson) is a very good player, a very special player. He has done exceptionally well for us this season. And I’m sure he has aspirations to play for India and I think At some point he will be elected for a long time. He is good and ready to be picked at any time, Sangakkara signed off.
