We are tired of demanding special status for Bihar: JDU leader Vijender Yadav India News – Times of India

Patna: Important aide of the Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar Said on Monday that the JD(U) is “tired” of making requests for special category status The demand for the state and “indefinitely” cannot be continued.
it was told by Vijendra YadavThe former state president of the party and a powerful member of the cabinet, in response to questions from journalists about Kumar’s demand for close to his heart.
“We are not going to raise any more demands. How long can we keep doing this? We are tired (we are tired). We cannot continue with the (relentless) demand for an indefinite period”, Yadav said.
Given Kumar’s stated commitment to securing special status for Bihar, he shrugged off the question whether the stance might make the JD(U) face criticism from the opposition.
Apparently, the Congress took a jibe at the JD(U) for the remarks, saying it exposed the party’s “dualism” on the issue.
“It is now clear that the special category status was just a political stunt for the JD(U). It was never meant to be business. We will expose the party in front of the people,” said AICC media panelist and MLC Prem Chandra Mishra.
Kumar in particular had been raising the demand ever since the state was carved out in 2000 and the mineral-rich Jharkhand was carved out of it.
There was a renewed thrust on the demand five years later when he took power in the state and during Manmohan Singh’s rule.
Kumar, an NDA ally, had raised several eyebrows ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when he said he would support “any government” that had promised status to Bihar.
The demand went unheeded and after the NDA returned to power under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the central government told Bihar that no state could now be given special category status as the provision was scrapped on the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission. was done.
When a demand was made to this effect by representatives of all parties before the 15th Finance Commission chairman NK Singh, he deferred the issue saying it was for the National Development Council to decide.
Singh, who is now with the BJP, was formerly a Rajya Sabha member of the JD(U) and a strong supporter of special category status for Bihar.
