West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee on Wednesday appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged irregularities in the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment in the state. This is his second appearance before the CBI in less than two weeks.

According to sources, Chatterjee may be asked about the reason behind the formation of the SSC Advisory Committee and who had control over it. He had reportedly informed the CBI during the last interrogation that he had formed the committee but had no control over it. The probe agency will question why he did not keep the committee under control despite being the education minister at that time.

The former education minister had last appeared before the CBI on May 18 where he was questioned for nearly three-and-a-half hours.

Meanwhile, a division bench of the Calcutta High Court refused to grant relief to Partha Chatterjee in connection with the case on May 18. The Bench did not accept the matter as the applicant had not submitted the proper file.
