Ways to improve bone health The Times of India

Bone health should never be overlooked and no matter what your age, you are always at risk of bone loss. Although bones tend to weaken with age, it never costs much to take care of the body’s structural structure from an early age.

Bone generally deteriorates after the age of 40 and the process of degeneration accelerates after that. Low estrogen levels, low physical activity, lack of dietary calcium, tobacco use and smoking reduce bone mass.

Hormones also affect bone health. “Too much thyroid hormone can lead to bone loss. In women, bone loss increases dramatically in menopause due to a drop in estrogen levels. Also prolonged absence of menstruation (amenorrhea) before menopause increases the risk of osteoporosis. In men, low testosterone levels can cause a loss of bone mass,” say experts at MayoClinic.com.
