However, Akshar Patel, who shared a 162-run partnership with Kohli at Motera, said that the centurion didn’t seem to have any ailments, judging by the way he moved between the wickets.

Akshar himself played a fine innings, scoring 79 off 113 balls to reach his third half-century in the home series against Australia after a 84-run stand in Nagpur and a 74-run partnership in New Delhi.

Gill’s 235-ball 128 got India off to a good start, before Kohli brought up his 75th international century after a long wait.

It marked the 34-year-old’s first hundred in the longest format of the game since his three-figure score way back in November of the year 2019.

He batted beautifully to make his way to the elusive mark and progressed from there scoring 186 runs in an innings from 364 balls.

Captain Rohit Sharma, veteran Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and wicketkeeper Shrikar Bharat were also notable contributors, scoring 35, 42 and 44 respectively. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also scored 28 runs to pave the way for India to post a mammoth score.

Shreyas Iyer could not come out to bat due to injury and India ended their first innings of the game with a lead of 91 runs.

Travis Head and Matthew Kunhemann came out to bat for Australia in the second innings and ended Day 4 without loss at three o’clock. The visiting team is 88 runs behind.

India lead the four-match series 2-1 after their wins in Nagpur and Delhi, but Australia staged a comeback with a memorable win in Indore to seal their place in the final of the World Test Championship.

India will look to win the ongoing game in Ahmedabad and join the Aussies in the WTC summit clash.
