There are 25 dams in the country where even 50% of the water has not reached. This has been confirmed in the report of the Central Water Commission released on 26 August. However, in the coming days, the water level in some dams may rise if the monsoon becomes active again.

44% less water in dams in Punjab, 19% in Rajasthan
Punjab and Himachal Pradesh are the worst hit. Due to less rain in Himachal Pradesh, the water in the dams has reached less. Due to this, thousands of farmers of Rajasthan also got less hope of getting canal water. The situation is so bad that the dams from which Rajasthan gets its water are half the capacity. No dam in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan has received water as per its capacity. Punjab is on top in this case, there is 44% less water. On the other hand, Himachal Pradesh has 42% less water and Rajasthan has 19% less water. There are eight dams in these three states, of which four or half of the dams have less than 40% water. 80 to 90% of the water is in only one dam, while there are three dams with 50 to 61% water.

The situation is not good in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh too.
Even in the states located in the middle of the country, this time the water is less than expected. Out of 23 dams in central India, 5 have less than 40% water. At the same time, 40 to 50% water has come in four dams. In Madhya Pradesh, water has come 26% less than the total capacity. Whereas Chhattisgarh has 4% less water. Uttar Pradesh has got 15% and Uttarakhand has 4% water.

Impact of Himachal in Rajasthan
There has been less water in the dams of Rajasthan, but the problem is that the rainfall in Himachal has decreased. Western Rajasthan gets its water from Gobind Sagar (Bhakra) and Pong Dam of Himachal Pradesh. This time Bhakra Dam has 64% water, while Pong Dam has only 52% water.

Situation fine in Kota, bad in Jaipur-Udaipur
This time the monsoon did not have much effect in Rajasthan. Only in Kota the water situation is fine, but in Jaipur and Udaipur, the situation is bad. The Bisalpur dam, which supplies water to Jaipur, currently has 50% water. At the same time, the Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam, which supplies water to Kota, has 76% water. The Jakham dam of Pratapgarh has only 40% water. Udaipur division gets water only from Jakham.

Expert said – the situation is dangerous, farmers should get water
Retired SE BG Vyas of the Department of Water Supply says that the lack of water in the country’s dams is worrying. Water has come very less especially in Rajasthan. 11 districts of our state get drinking and irrigation water from Pong and Bhakra Dam of Himachal, but this time it is half the water. Not much water has accumulated in Bisalpur also.

Narendra Arya, an expert in canal matters, says that except in some parts of the country, the water in most of them is below capacity. In such a situation, the central government should change the policies by adopting a soft stance towards the farmers. Every effort should be made to provide water to the farmers for irrigation so that there is no shortage of food in the country.
