Steve Smith is not just a batting maestro, he is also a world class fielder. And he struck a timely reminder with a sensational one-handed catch while fielding in the slips for Sussex in the current County Championship Division Two.

Smith is preparing for the ICC World Test Championship final and the Ashes by representing Sussex in England domestic cricket. He is yet to top the bat after scoring 30 and 3 in two innings so far.

However, he still managed to hog the limelight thanks to his brilliant catch to dismiss Leicestershire all-rounder Rehan Ahmed.

After being dismissed for 270 in reply to Sussex’s first innings 430, Leicestershire were asked to follow on.

and Leicestershire found themselves in trouble at 65/4 but recovered to force a draw. They made 295/6 with centuries from Viaan Mulder and Rishi Patel.

Rehan arrived at the crease with his team leading by 27 runs and after managing nine runs, he edged a shot from right-arm pacer Henry Crocombe to the right of Smith standing at second slip.

In the blink of an eye, Smith flew to his right and caught behind him with one hand, to grab the ball and end Rehan’s stoppage.

Smith turned to county cricket after the tour of India, during which he featured in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and a three-match ODI series.

The 33-year-old took over the captaincy after Pat Cummins returned home after the second Test in Delhi, who was accompanied by his mother, who was kept in palliative care.

Australia took a 2-0 lead after losses in Nagpur and Delhi and then equalized 2-1 in Indore. The fourth and final Test ended in a draw.

Smith may have made a mark with his captaincy, but with the bat he was far from successful, managing a high score of 38 while batting in seven innings during the tour.
