Despite being down 0-2 in Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, Brett Lee has a warning for India ahead of the third Test in Indore

Even though Australia is currently trailing the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, which India Brett Lee, who beat the visitors by 6 wickets in Delhi to take a 2-0 lead in the series, has a warning ahead for India.

While the last two Test matches ended in three days, proving Australia were no matches for India, former Australian fast bowler Lee feels the visitors still have a few tricks up their sleeve.

The first Test at Nagpur was won by India by an innings and 132 runs, while the second Test was also won by the home side.

Australia suffered uncharacteristic collapses in their second innings in both the matches and only a miracle can help them salvage their pride and level the series 2-2.

There is however one player who could prove to be a thorn in the side for India in the third Test, with new boy Todd Murphy picked by Lee as a difference maker for Australia. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the legendary pacer identified the mystery spinner as Nathan Lyon’s successor.

“Who after Nathan Lyon? Well, looks like he found his answer in 22-year-old young superstar off-spinner Todd Murphy. What a sensational start it was for Australia. Australia lost the match by a huge margin but Todd Murphy woke up the world and took notice,” Lee said.

In the First Test, Murphy took seven wickets during India’s first innings, also on his debut, and he troubled some senior players like Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja.

“In the only innings that Australia bowled, he took 7 for 124. The five wickets were the wickets of KL Rahul, Ravi Ashwin, Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ravi Jadeja. What a dream debut. He did this in the presence of his family all the way to Nagpur. I am hopeful that he will do better in harsher conditions in India,” said Brett Lee.

With Murphy still only 22, the Australian veteran will expect him to get better.

He said, ‘He has a very tough series in front of him. Let’s see whether he is found or not. For Australian cricket, I really hope that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be the first chapter of an illustrious career. Beware India!” Lee said.
