WATCH: Alastair Cook’s ‘Crab’ Bowling Action Leaves Everyone Divided

Alastair Cook certainly knows how to be the center of attention on the cricket field. The former England captain, who is currently playing for Essex in the County Championship, enthralled the audience with his unique crab-like bowling action in a Division One match against Kent.

Bowling the third ball of his only over in the match, Cook was seen walking like a crab looking at the offside ground, before returning to his normal bowling.

Cook’s unparalleled bowling focus entertained commentators as he described the bowling run-up as “steaming in”. The County Championship posted a video of the unusual bowling action on Twitter, describing Alistair Cook as an entertainer.

Cook scored an impressive century with a 220-run partnership for the opening wicket with Nick Brown, who also scored a century. Essex scored a total of 514 runs in the first innings on the basis of centuries from the openers and 137 runs by Matt Critchley. Kent responded strongly and managed to put up a 129-run stand with a 67-run lead by Ben Compton and Jordan Cox.

Considered one of England’s greatest openers of all time, Alastair Cook played 161 matches for the country and scored 12472 runs at an average of 45.4. He is ranked number 5 in the list of highest run scorers in Test cricket and has 33 centuries and 57 half-centuries to his name. The left-handed batsman represented England in 92 ODIs, scoring 3204 runs at an average of 36.4.

While age was still on his side, Cook decided to hang his boots on international cricket in 2018. He played his last match against India at the Kennington Oval in 2018, scoring a century in the second innings of the Test. He was 33 years old at the time of his last Test match.

Cook also scored a century on debut and made him one of the few players to score 100 runs in the first and last Test of his career.
