Wearing a facemask has become the new normal in the current times, and keeping the pandemic in mind when Apple set the ability to unlock iPhones with the Apple Watch, it was a lifesaver. However, the handy feature isn’t limited to just your smartphone, as you can also unlock Mac using Apple Watch.
This amazing feature is also called Auto Unlock, and it allows you to connect your Apple Watch to your Mac. After doing that, you can sit in front of your Mac and unlock it automatically without requiring a password. This can only happen if your Apple Watch is unlocked and on your wrist.
Technically, the Auto Unlock feature was introduced in Macs long before the company decided to put it in iPhones. Before using the Auto Unlock feature, you need to make sure that your Apple Watch and Mac are compatible and that you have set up two-factor (not two-step) authentication for your iCloud account.

So, without any further ado, let’s have a look at the easy steps to turn on Auto Unlock.
Step 1: Before starting the process you need to make sure that your Mac’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are turned on. Your Apple Watch and Mac must be signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID, and your Apple ID must use two-factor authentication. And make sure your Apple Watch is using passcode.
Step 2: Once your devices are set up as above steps, the next step is to choose Apple menu > System Preferences on your Mac.
Step 3: Then click on ‘Security & Privacy’ and then click on ‘General’.
Step 4: Select “Use Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac” or “Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac”.
If you have more than one Apple Watch, you’ll need to select the watch you want to use to unlock your apps and Mac.
People who don’t have two-factor authentication turned on for their Apple ID should follow the onscreen instructions and select the checkbox again.
