‘Want to pay back by winning games’: Star batsman praised for supporting Rohit during tough times

Rohit Sharma and his boys are on the verge of writing a new chapter in the history of Indian cricket. As the men in blue prepare for the third and final ODI against England in Manchester on Sunday, they are eyeing their first ODI series win on English soil since 2014. After a remarkable 10-wicket win at The Oval, the visitors suffered a 100-run defeat at Lord’s. The series is now tied 1-1 and the winner takes the trophy on Sunday.

Middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav addresses media personnel ahead of the much-awaited clash at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, he spoke at length about the captain Rohit Sharma under whom he also plays for Mumbai. India In the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Speaking about Rohit in the press, Suryakumar spoke about how the Indian skipper has always helped him in tough times.

“Kouhana has been really good. Ever since I played domestic cricket in Mumbai, he is watching me and talking to me. Coming to IPL, I still remember that in 2018/19, we used to talk a lot about our game, and how can I improve under pressure situations. We had a lot of conversations,” Suryakumar said at the pre-match press conference.

He said, “Whenever he is leading, I have really felt him on the ground. I have learned a lot from him. I am happy that he has shown a lot of faith in me. I still remember, of 2021. During the second phase of the IPL, I was not going through a good patch and he was the one who had a lot of conversations with me about it. I was very happy with how things were going. I was able to win matches for the team. I want to bring back the confidence.”

Suryakumar, who scored a brilliant century at Trent Bridge in the final T20I, further said that his mindset is the same whether it is T20I or ODI.

“My mindset remains the same in ODI cricket as well. Because as you know it is very important to play a natural game and one advantage in ODIs is that there are five fielders inside the circle. So, your intention is always to score runs. Even if we have lost a few wickets, I always try to stick to the scoreboard so that we don’t miss out in the end.”
