If you have unhallmarked gold jewellery, you have two options to ensure the quality of the gold;
1. You can approach a BIS registered jeweler and get the jewelery hallmarked through him.

2. You can get the jewelry tested at any BIS accredited A&H center
After paying the test fee of Rs. 200 to any of the BIS recognized A&H centres.
Consumers can bring one or more pieces of jewelery lying with them to a BIS accredited A&H center for testing.
Lots brought by the consumer up to 10 pieces may be treated as mixed lots and tested as per the provisions for mixed lots as mentioned in IS 15820:2009.
The jewelery brought by the consumer is weighed in the presence of the consumer. Each article is tagged with a serial number for identification.

Can Hallmarked Gold Be Fake?
As per Section 49 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018, if the hallmarked jewelery purchased by the consumer is found to be of lesser purity than the one marked on the jewellery, the buyer/customer shall be entitled to compensation which shall be double the amount.
