According to sources close to Kamal Haasan, the recent developments can be considered as a prelude to an alliance in 2024 as the political stand of his party and the ideology of the Congress are quite compatible

On 24 December, along with around 300 party workers, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan joined the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi In his Connect India tour in New Delhi after accepting the invitation of Wayanad MP. He also remarked that many people advised him not to attend the event as it would harm his political career. The Makkal Needhi Maiam leader further said that he joined the effort to unite India instead of dividing it.

Kamal Haasan said that the yatra raises voice against unemployment, price rise, Chinese intrusion in India and hatred being spread across the country rather than any political objective. His speech at the Red Fort is seen as the MNM moves closer to joining the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led Secular Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to sources close to Kamal Haasan, the recent developments can be considered as a prelude to an alliance in 2024 as the political stand of the party and the ideology of the Congress are quite compatible. Additionally, he recently talked with second-line functionaries of the party about strengthening and reviving the MNM, which included decisions such as holding an important public event every month until the Lok Sabha elections.

According to one of the party leaders, Kamal Haasan’s participation in the BJY also shows that there are not as many competitive alliances in the Lok Sabha polls as there were in the 2021 assembly polls, where Makkal Needhi Maiam, TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Regional Dravida Heavyweights from the Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) contested the election against each other.

Last week, when Communist Party of India (Marxist) Rajya Sabha member John Britt alleged that the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language violated Section 4(iii) of the Official Languages Act and also objected to the use of Hindi as a medium of instruction at the Center Expressed. universities and questioned whether Sundar Pichai would be in charge of Google if he had to take his IIT exams in Hindi. Retweeting the MP’s post, Kamal wrote in Tamil, “Kerala is also showing the same and talking about half of India. Warning, Pongal (Tamil New Year) is coming. Oh sorry!, ‘Stay awake’ for your understanding.”

According to political observers, the MNM chief is taking a step closer to the DMK-led alliance. This is not the first time that in 2018, Kamal Haasan had expressed his desire to join hands with the Congress. Eight months after launching his party in the same year, Kamal Haasan said that if the Congress severed its ties with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), he would have to forge an alliance with the Congress for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Nidhi Mayyam will remain open. Eventually, during the assembly elections in 2021, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram suggested the MNM to join the DMK-Congress alliance.

In 2014, Kamal Haasan once said that a Tamil wearing a dhoti should become the Prime Minister of India (referring to Congress’s P Chidambaram). Also, the way the actor has portrayed Mahatma Gandhi and his ideology in his films is noteworthy.
