A group of volunteers from India is using social media platforms to contact Indian nationals in Eastern European countries to arrange help for students moving out of war-torn Ukraine. Rajiv Khobragade, a member, said, ‘The Platform’ is a group of around 20 volunteers working in the field of education. The group is contacting a network of Indians living in Hungary, Romania and Poland, they told PTI on Thursday.

According to him, students entering these countries from Ukraine are facing severe cold and lack of shelter and food. Some are staying in tents when the temperature has dropped to minus 6 degrees Celsius. They are also facing connectivity issues as SIM cards bought in Ukraine sometimes do not work in neighboring countries.

“We have created several WhatsApp groups with volunteers and members from local people from Romania, Poland and Hungary,” Khobragade said. He said that parents of Indian students can also take help through these WhatsApp groups.

The group has managed to provide shelter and food to some students in Hungary, Romania, Poland. Khobragade said that on Wednesday, around 300 students arrived at the Hungarian border from Kharkiv in Ukraine, which has been heavily attacked by the Russian army and Indian students living in Hungary have arranged food for them.
