Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files release postponed amid rising Covid-19 cases

The Kashmir Files will not be released on January 26 as scheduled

The Kashmir Files has an ensemble cast of actors including Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakroborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar and Chinmay Mandlekar.

Looks like the story of the plight of Kashmiri Pandits during the exodus will not be told anytime soon, courtesy of the rising cases of the Omicron version of Covid-19. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s much-awaited and much-hyped film, The Kashmir Files will not release on January 26 as scheduled due to the spike in COVID-19 cases across the country. The makers posted the official announcement on their social media handles with a creative of the map of India, which mentioned, “Due to the significant spike in COVID cases in the country and partial or complete closure of cinemas in several states, We have decided to postpone the release of our film ‘The Kashmir Files’. Let’s fight the pandemic together. Wear masks and stay safe!”

The production of the film was also interrupted earlier when the first schedule of the film was called off due to the first outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic. The film production was further halted when the cast’s actor Yograj Singh made some controversial statements during the farmers’ protest, for which he was dropped from the film. Director Agnihotri replaced him with actor Puneet Issar.

The Kashmir Files is based on true events and chronicles the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley. Based on interviews with the first generation of genocide victims, the film will document the sufferings, struggles, pain and hardships of Kashmiri Pandits and will talk about important socio-political aspects such as democracy, politics, religion and humanity.

This is the second collaboration of Zee Studios and Agnihotri after the critically acclaimed The Tashkent Files, which won the coveted National Award. The film was based on the death of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the former Prime Minister of India.
