Student Somnath Sau is an active member of the Students’ Federation of India, the student wing of the CPI(M). India (SFI). Recently, in a post on social media, he condemned the attitude of the university authorities towards Sen in the current controversy.

He said in his post that this is nothing but unnecessarily harassing the globally acclaimed educationist and economist. According to him, some elements are continuously advising the VC that by troubling Sen, he will get BJP’s support.

According to Sau, it is clear from the land records that Sen is legally entitled to the entire land, including 13 decimils of land, which the university authorities claim to be beyond his legal entitlement. “The real truth must be revealed as in the process an aged and globally acclaimed educationist is being unnecessarily harassed. University authorities should come forward with papers in support of their baseless claims,” ​​he wrote in his social media post.

Soon after he was slapped with show-cause and asked why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for being vocal against the university despite being a student there. In the notice, SAW has been warned of strict disciplinary action if such action is repeated in future.

On 11 February, Sen’s counsel issued a legal notice to the university authorities, asking the latter to publicly apologize for his derogatory remarks in connection with the ongoing dispute over 13 decimils of land occupied by him. “The university authorities should apologize for making such derogatory remarks. Else appropriate legal action will be taken,” said Sen’s lawyer Gorachand Chakraborty.
