Vishnu Deo Sai Declared Chhattisgarh’s New CM; Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Him

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ended days of anticipation by appointing Vishnu Deo Sai as the new Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on Sunday. This decision followed a crucial meeting involving the BJP’s 54 newly-elected MLAs in Raipur. A significant figure in the BJP, Sai previously served as the State President of the party for Chhattisgarh from 2020 to 2022.

At 59, Sai becomes Chhattisgarh’s first tribal Chief Minister since former CM Ajit Jogi, hailing from the influential Sahu (Teli) community prominent in the Durg, Raipur, and Bilaspur divisions.

Having held the position of Union Minister of State for Mines and Steel in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first government, Sai emerged victorious in the recent Chhattisgarh Assembly Election 2023 from Kunkuri in north Chhattisgarh, defeating incumbent Congress MLA UD Minj.

Previously, Sai secured four consecutive Lok Sabha elections from the Raigarh constituency in 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014. Earlier in his political career, he won two successive Assembly elections in 1990 and 1993 from the Tapkara constituency in undivided Madhya Pradesh.

Born on February 21, 1964, Sai hails from a farming family in Bagia village within Jashpur district. His public records available on the Election Commission’s website reflect his higher secondary schooling at Loyola Higher Secondary School in Kunkuri, Jashpur.

Declared assets totaling Rs 2.16 Crore before the polls, Sai brings both experience and a background in public service to his new role as Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister.
