Virat Kohli’s confidence will come back when he gets a big score, says former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin

The current form of Virat Kohli is the topic of biggest discussion in the cricket world at the moment. The former India captain, who earned the tag of ‘run machine’, has been struggling to score big scores for more than two years now. He also relinquished the captaincy in all formats of the game to focus on his batting and manage the workload, but is yet to achieve consistency.

The recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 turned out to be one of the worst seasons for Kohli. He scored 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.73. He also scored a few fifties but got out in his 20s on most occasions.

the former India Captain and stylish batsman Mohammad Azharuddin believes Kohli’s ‘shocking consistency’ during his peak almost two years ago has set the benchmark so high that even if the charismatic cricketer scores in the 50s or 60s, His fans feel that he has underperformed.

“With Virat Kohli, what happens is that even if he scores 50, people say he has failed. I think it happens with every cricketer, even the best players have gone through this bad phase,” Khaleej Times quoted Azhar as saying.

The former India captain said that it is only a matter of time before Kohli rediscovers his form. Azhar said that just a century for an ace Indian batsman will get him firing again.

“There is nothing wrong with his technique. Sometimes you need a little luck too. If he gets a big score, a big century, the aggression and confidence will come back,” Azhar said.

Kohli has come a long lean since November 2019, not scoring a century in any of the three formats. He is the highest run scorer in a single IPL The season when he scored 973 runs for RCB in 2016.

Azhar also talked about Hardik Pandya’s return, saying the all-rounder needs to show consistency, especially after a winning campaign in IPL 2022.

“He has the potential, he has done well for the Indian team, but due to injuries, he was not in the team consistently. He is back now, he is bowling his four overs. How long will he bowl for us? Don’t know really. But we definitely want him to bowl, because he is an all-rounder,” Azhar said.
