Virat Kohli is a very good player who can’t bounce back, he just needs a breather: Michael Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has suggested Virat Kohli To take a break from cricket and spend some time with my family. He is going through a lean phase as a batting maestro IPL 341 runs in 16 matches in 2022. He managed to score just two half-centuries in the entire season and completed it at a strike rate of 115.99. Royal Challengers Bangalore did well to reach the playoff stage but Kohli had a disappointing season which also included three golden ducks.

Vaughan said there was a time two-three years ago when Kohli used to score centuries at regular intervals and insisted that it is not possible to spend his entire career where only good things happen to you.

“He is a great player who is going through a phase which is not very easy. Two-three years ago you turned on the TV or reached the field and knew that Virat was going to score a century. He just went through one of those phases where every time he batted he felt like scoring a century. It’s a career, isn’t it? “You don’t go through your whole career where everything is so easy,” Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

The former England captain further said that Kohli is such a good player that he cannot make a comeback but at the moment he needs a break.

“He just needs a breath. Go and take some time with your family, get on the plane to England and then start hitting some balls.”

“These players have played a lot and they are under so much pressure every day of their lives that it is inevitable that eventually, you go through a phase where you struggle a little. He is such a good player that he cannot come back. And he will again have one of those tours that we saw a few years back, where he scored so many centuries,” he said.

The batting maestro has been rested for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa but will return to the Indian squad for the tour of England.

“It is a bit tough at the moment and he has to work so hard to get back in form. But I think at this point, he should just pack his bat in his bag and go sit with the family. I don’t know where he can go without hesitating and getting upset. Just get away from all that, do a few weeks of chill and he’ll be fresh off when he picks up the bat,” Vaughan said.
