Virat Kohli among India’s Test stars hit by Kovid after landing in England, tour match in doubt: Report

Team India’s preparations ahead of the rescheduled Birmingham Test against England from July 1 have suffered a major setback as some members of the team have contracted COVID-19.

On Tuesday, several media reports claimed that ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin missed a flight to England after testing positive. And now, a report made in times of India said that the former India Captain Virat Kohli was also caught by this virus after reaching London a few days ago.

A source was quoted as saying, “Yes, Virat also contracted Kovid after returning from a holiday in Maldives, but now he has recovered.”

“This now means that India’s tour game against Leicestershire from June 24 will not be as intense as coach Rahul Dravid wanted, as the medical advice is to not overload players after experiencing Covid-19. There may be more Covid cases in the team,” the source added.

Kohli’s recovery from Covid is certainly a good sign for the visitors who are already leading 2-1 in the five-match Test series. On Wednesday, Kohli also shared his pictures from India’s training session ahead of the rescheduled Test.

“Good exercise. Be happy,” he wrote on Twitter.

Meanwhile, many pictures have surfaced on social media in which fans like Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma are being well-liked.

According to a report in Zee News, the two went shopping in London on Sunday, which was a holiday for the team.

Amidst all these reports, there is no official statement from the BCCI on the entire episode.

It is also learned that Ashwin will be joining the team in London soon. New travel arrangements are being made for the veteran cricketer and he will soon be with the rest of his teammates.

Jayant Yadav was kept as standby after Ashwin failed to recover in time. The Haryana spinner was called to the NCA in Bangalore. However, that option has now been ruled out as Ashwin has fully recovered and is expected to fly in the next 24 hours, probably on Wednesday.

Dravid has joined Rohit Sharma & Co as BCCI posted some pictures on its Twitter handle, in which the head coach was seen addressing the team. Indian players have started training in Leicester as they posted a video and some pictures from their training session on Monday.
