Violence in Nagaland: 13 killed in firing by security forces, people torched army vehicles; SIT probe orders

At least 13 locals were killed in firing by security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district. It is being told that due to the fear of these people being associated with the militant organization NSCN, the security forces had opened fire, in which these people died. After this incident, violence spread in the area. Violent clashes also took place between the security forces and the local people.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the incident of killing of civilians in Mon Ke Oting is highly condemnable. Its high-level SIT investigation will be done. Everyone will get justice according to the law. He appealed to all the people to maintain peace.

Villagers were treated as rebels
According to the report, acting on a tip-off, the security forces were ambushed on the Tiru-Oting road, but due to a mistake in identification, the villagers were mistaken for rebels. Actually, the car of the same color which was mentioned in the input passed by. The soldiers asked to stop the car but it was not stopped. After this the security force started firing.

Angry villagers set fire to vehicles of security forces
It is being told that all the victims were laborers, who were going to their homes in a pickup after work. When he did not reach home till late night, the villagers started looking for him and then they came to know about the incident. Angry villagers torched vehicles of security forces. The soldiers had to struggle a lot in controlling the angry mob.

Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Saddened by the unfortunate incident at Oating in Nagaland. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives. The state government will conduct a high-level SIT probe so that the families of the victims can get justice.
