Violence after West Bengal elections: CBI arrests 11 people in East Medinipur

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested 11 people in East Medinipur as part of the investigation into the post-poll violence cases in West Bengal.

In September, the CBI had detained six people for their alleged involvement in several criminal offenses in the post-poll violence in the state. A team of CBI officers visited Howrah district in the morning and detained all the six of them from Domjur area. The central agency has so far registered 34 FIRs and made three arrests in cases of post-poll violence – two in Nadia and one in North 24 Parganas.

The Calcutta High Court had on August 19 ordered that the alleged rape and murder cases be probed by the CBI after the assembly elections, taking into account the NHRC report in the matter.
