Vigilance case: Will leave politics if allegations of corruption are proved: Kerala Congress chief

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Sudhakaran on Monday asked the LDF government to ensure that mandatory procedures are followed before registering a vigilance case against an MP like him. He challenged the Marxist Party-led government to prove the corruption charges against him and said he would end his political career if investigators were able to do so.

“I am ready to face any investigation, whether it is a CBI inquiry or a judicial inquiry. If they prove that I have committed financial irregularities of even a rupee, I will remain in politics forever,” he told reporters here. will leave.” The Kannur strongman also raised objections against the genuineness and background of the complainant, his former driver Prashant Babu, who had recently lodged a complaint of corruption and misappropriation of funds against him in the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau.

He also said that it is understandable whether the case was registered on the basis of the complaint of a trusted person. Sudhakaran’s reaction comes a day after the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau said it had not ordered any preliminary inquiry into the corruption and misappropriation of funds against the KPCC chief, but had only directed verification of the antecedents of the complainant. .

He alleged that the complainant was a person who was expelled from the Congress party as it became apparent that he had tried to give CPI(M) goons a chance to kill him sometime back. Dismissing media reports that Babu was his driver, the leader claimed that he had called him only on those occasions when his permanent driver was off duty.

Sudhakaran further alleged that a drinker, Babu cheated the bank where he had worked earlier, duped lakhs of rupees and duped several people by promising jobs at the newly constructed Kannur airport. He also denied allegations that he or any functionary of the Kannur District Congress Committee (DCC) had accepted any amount from migrants in the Gulf in the name of Karunakaran Memorial Trust.

According to the complaint lodged by Babu, Sudhakaran allegedly misappropriated Rs 32 crore from funds received by the K Karunakaran Trust for the construction of the politician’s memorial, a project that never started. The complaint also alleged that the KPCC president duped the money collected for the construction of the Kannur DCC office.
