A 70-year-old man’s life was saved by the smartness of a loco pilot in Kalyan, Mumbai. These elders were crossing the tracks of the train and going from one platform to another and suddenly fell on the train track after taking a detour. Meanwhile, the Mumbai-Varanasi train came from the front. This got them stuck in the front part of the engine. However, seeing the elderly man fall, the train’s loco pilot applied the brakes at the right time and his life was saved.

According to the Central Railway, this incident happened at around 12.45 pm on Sunday. The train was proceeding from platform number of Kalyan railway station in Thane district. The speed of the train was under control and the head of loco pilot SK was alert, so the old man could be saved. He has been identified as Hari Shankar.

The loco pilot saved the life of an elderly person like this
SK Pradhan said that as soon as the train left Kalyan station, CPWI Santosh Kumar told over wireless that an elderly man had fallen on the tracks. Before our sighting train had come very close to him. After this, I and Assistant Loco Pilot Ravi Shankar carefully applied the emergency brakes and stopped the train at the right time.

Had there been a delay of a few seconds, it could have been a disaster. The elderly man trapped in the front part of the engine has suffered minor scratches. At present, he is fit and has gone to his home.

Following this incident, the Central Railway issued an advisory asking people not to cross the railway tracks and warned that it could prove fatal.

Railways will reward both the loco pilots
Officials said that Alok Kansal, General Manager, Central Railway has announced a reward of Rs 2,000 each to two loco pilots and CPWI.
