Video: Bride’s wedding in hospital so that grandmother battling cancer can be a part of the ceremony

While most couples may plan an elaborate wedding to make their special day memorable, others place special emphasis on the involvement of family members. So, there was a sweet surprise for a granddaughter to her ailing grandmother battling terminal lung cancer: A wedding in her hospital room! Now, video on the go has struck a chord with thousands of online people.

Avis Russell, a 71-year-old Texas woman, was suffering from cancer and despite all the efforts, her health began to deteriorate rapidly. Although her granddaughter Sean had planned her wedding with her fiancé for later this year, she decided to hold it early, realizing that her grandmother might not make it.

So, in an intimate ceremony conducted by a minister, he exchanged vows with his middle-school sweetheart at Methodist Hospital, Northeast, so that his grandmother could be a part of the ceremony.

In a clip shared by the hospital on its social media pages, the elderly woman can be seen holding a bouquet on the bed. But what made people emotional was the hug she and her newly wed husband gave Russell after the ceremony.

Watch the beautiful moment here:

Tragically, Russell passed away soon after the wedding. “Avis (Russell) spent some of his last moments on this earth celebrating and loving his granddaughter,” the hospital said.

The moving post brought tears to the eyes of not only the family members but also of others online. While relatives of the newly wed couple thanked the hospital for allowing them to host the beautiful ceremony, others appreciated and blessed the bride and groom for their thoughtful gesture.
