However, the convocation will be held as per schedule on that day and Tamilisai Soundararajan, Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, will be the chief guest in her capacity as Chief Rector of the University.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s visit to Pondicherry Central University to address the 29th annual convocation ceremony on February 28 has been cancelled, a university source said on Sunday.

The convocation, however, will be held as per schedule on that day and Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, as the chief rector of the university, will be the chief guest. She will address the outgoing graduates at the convocation and distribute degree certificates.

The source said the Vice President’s Secretariat has informed the university that the visit to the Union Territory for the annual convocation has been canceled due to unavoidable reasons.

The source said Chief Minister N Rangasamy, Home Minister A Namassivam and Puducherry MPs S Selvaganapathy (Rajya Sabha) and V Vaithilingam (Lok Sabha) will attend the convocation.
