Veterinarian abducted, forced marriage in Bihar’s Begusarai

A veterinary doctor from Bihar’s Begusarai district was allegedly abducted for “pakadwa vivah” (kidnapping for marriage), an official said on Tuesday.

According to the information, Veterinarian Satyam Kumar Jha, a resident of Pidhauli village of Teghra police station area, had gone for the treatment of cattle on Monday afternoon and a group of people abducted him and forcibly married a girl.

“When Satyam did not return home till evening, we started looking for him. He did not return even in the night. A video clip arrived on my mobile on Tuesday morning. When we opened the clip my son was sitting with a girl and the marriage was going on,” said Satyam’s father Subodh Kumar Jha.

Jha said, “We have lodged a written complaint with the Teghra police station in this regard taking the names of the accused.

“We have received a complaint related to pakkadva shaadi (kidnapping for marriage). Investigation is being done from every angle. The SHO of Teghra police station said that the case of love affair cannot be ruled out.

Kidnapping for marriage, known as pakkadwa marriage or forced marriage, is common in many districts of Bihar such as Lakhisarai, Jamui, Munger, Patna, Begusarai, Nalanda, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Banka.
