Venkatesh Iyer, who made waves in the recently concluded IPL 2021, has been included in the Indian squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand, starting on November 17 with the first T20I. The KKR cricketer was instrumental in batting at the top where he scored 370 runs in ten matches. Speaking to The Indian Express in an exclusive interview, he seemed optimistic.

“My workload management has been good so far. I am an all-rounder so I have to pay equal attention to both the aspects of the game. That’s what I’ve been doing since my age-group state-level days. It has not been a huge issue so far,” the 26-year-old was quoted as saying.

Harshal Patel finally joined the party after nine years of grinding

Iyer, who has been in the limelight with his batting prowess, can bowl four overs of spin as well, which is certainly not a part-time pick like any other top-order batsman. He said that to play for India, he may have to prepare in all departments of the game, be it batting or bowling. It also means that he has become a ‘multi-format player’. “I have always worked hard on my red ball game and it has been my conscious effort not to be one dimensional. If you have to play for India, you have to be consistent across formats and that’s why I have done a lot of work in both the departments of the game. I have worked on my bowling as much as I have worked on my batting.

The 26-year-old was asked to stay back after the IPL along with the likes of Harshal Patel, who was the top wicket-taker for RCB this year as he was retained as the net bowler ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021 . His selection was on. Card, a defeat in the World Cup only accelerated it. India will take on New Zealand in a three-match series starting November 17. Jaipur, Ranchi and Kolkata will play the venues.
