Vehicles entering Assam from Mizoram border to be investigated for illegal drug smuggling

Assam-Mizoram border dispute: Keeping in view the prevailing violence along the Assam-Mizoram border, all vehicles entering Assam at all points of entry on the Assam-Mizoram border will be checked for ‘illicit drugs’.

On 26 July, six state police officers and a civilian were killed and over 50 injured in border clashes and indiscriminate firing between Assam and Mizoram.

Violence on the border was made possible due to the recent crackdown on drug smuggling under the leadership of Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. They were disposed of at four places in Assam under the supervision of Himanta Biswa Sarma. Steps have been taken to address smuggling of illegal drugs through Mizoram which is a major threat to the society in general. Most of the medicines are sent from across the border via Mizoram and Assam.

The notice issued by the Assam government also states that if no illegal drugs are found in the vehicles, they will be allowed to pass after the approval of a police officer (not below the rank of sub-inspector). Will go
