Van collides with DTC in Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar, 3 dead

New Delhi: A van collided with a DTC bus on a flyover near Loni Gol Chakkar in northeast Delhi’s Jyoti Nagar on Thursday. Three people died and eight were injured in the incident. Due to the fierce collision, both the vehicles were crushed and badly damaged.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said, “On Wednesday around 12.30 pm, a Maruti Eeco van jumped the road divider and rammed into a DTC bus coming from the other side. The DTC bus was going from Bhajanpura to Nandnagari, while the eco van was going in the opposite direction. There were 11 people in the eco van running like a taxi.

One of the victims has been identified as Savita (55), while the identity of the other two is yet to be ascertained. According to Tirkey, the injured were brought to GTB Hospital, where three people were confirmed dead and eight others are being treated. The injured have been identified as Nitesh (25), his two sisters (14 and 9), Nand Kishore Chowdhary (45), his wife Reena (42), their 14-year-old child, eco van driver Moti Singh (35). And Manzoor Ansari (35) was arrested by the police.

“A case under relevant sections is being registered at Jyoti Nagar police station and further investigation is underway,” the DCP said.
