Highway closed due to hill slope in Champawati

Another disaster struck the soil of Uttarakhand on Monday when a mountain was seen slipping near Swala in Champawat. The Tanakpur-Champawat National Highway was blocked due to landslides.

In a video, cars are seen stuck on the highway as they slide down the mountain. Trees were uprooted and people were seen running away from the landslide. In the minute-long video, the panic was clearly evident as cars were seen driving away to safety.

Uttarakhand District Magistrate Vineet Tomar said about the incident, “It will take at least two days to clear the debris. I have directed the concerned authorities to divert the traffic to another route.”

Recently, a bus carrying 14 passengers in Uttarakhand survived a fatal accident when rocks started sliding off a mountain in the popular hill station Nainital.

In another incident that happened a few days back in Himachal Pradesh, an HRTC bus, which was buried under debris along with other vehicles, was found in a badly damaged condition due to a landslide in Kinnaur. A truck was also found, which rolled down the river bank due to a stone falling from the mountain and the body of the driver was recovered.

On the day of the incident, 10 bodies were recovered and 13 people were rescued. During the search and rescue operation, eight bodies were found in a taxi. Two cars in damaged condition were also recovered, but none were found in them.
