Uttarakhand BJP President Madan Kaushik in Delhi today, there is suspense about the next Chief Minister

new Delhi: Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Madan Kaushik is leaving for Delhi on Sunday as suspense prevails over the next chief minister of the state after the defeat of Pushkar Singh Dhami from Khatima assembly constituency. News agency ANI reported that Kaushik is on his way to the national capital for consultations with top BJP officials.

Union Minister Ajay Bhatt met BJP’s National General Secretary, Bommarabettu Lakshmijanardan Santosh, Uttarakhand Irrigation Minister Satpal Maharaj and Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal have also left for the national capital on Saturday.

Quoting one of the state’s BJP leaders, an ANI report said that the decision to select the next CM of Uttarakhand may take some time. “These leaders are saying that the decision will be taken after Uttarakhand election in-charge and Union Minister Prahlad Joshi and National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya submit the Uttarakhand election results report to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,” the BJP leader said. After the conclusion of the assembly elections, the outgoing Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami resigned to pave the way for the formation of a new government in the state.

Around seven MLAs met Dhami and offered to vacate their seat to contest again in case he was elected leader of the BJP’s legislature party in the state following his resignation.

The report said Dhami’s cabinet colleagues, Ganesh Joshi and Arvind Pandey also announced their support,

Congress candidate Bhuvan Chandra Kapri defeated Dhami by a margin of 6,579 votes. Dhami got 41,598 votes, while Kapri got 48,177 votes. The latter had a whopping vote share of 51.89 per cent.

The BJP secured 47 seats in Uttarakhand’s 70-assembly assembly and won a popular mandate in the state for the second time in a row.
