Prayagraj: A couple and their two children were brutally murdered inside their house Gohri Mohanganj villages within the limits of Phaphamau police station In trans-Gangetic region NS Prayagraj Thursday morning. The motive behind the murder is not yet known.
The police identified the deceased as follows Phoolchandra (50), his wife Meenu Devi (45) and their children Sapna (17) and Shiva (13).
After the incident, while senior police officers including DIG/SSP (Prayagraj) Best Tripathi reached the spot, the DIG has suspended the Inspector of Police (Phulpur) for dereliction of duty.
After conducting a preliminary inquiry, Tripathi said, “Seven teams of police have been pressed into action to crack down on the killings. Unknown assailants used ax on the heads of the four victims.
The DIG said that the bodies of three people were found lying in the verandah of the house while the girl’s body was lying inside the room. Police have detained four people for questioning.
“Police has compiled information regarding the incident and is working on various theories. We have come to know that among the five brothers, the deceased had got the least land for cultivation. In addition, the couple had registered a case against some people under the SC/ST Act over a property dispute in 2019 and 2021,” the DIG told TOI on Thursday.
He said, “Police is probing carefully from all angles and collecting evidence. The couple had recently informed the police higher authorities against the local police for not taking any action on their complaints. ,
Meanwhile, angered by the gruesome killings, the residents of the villages did not allow the local police to take the bodies for postmortem for hours. They demanded action against the local police officials, who did not act on the complaints lodged by the couple against some people of the village, which resulted in the incident.
However, later after the intervention of senior police officials, the villagers calmed down and allowed the police to take the bodies for post-mortem.
