Uttar Pradesh: 15 arrested for shaming teenage couple in Basti | Lucknow News – Times of India

GORAKHPUR: Basti police in Uttar Pradesh 15 people were arrested on Wednesday for publicly shaming a teenage couple and their faces blackened in Basti village with a garland of shoes around their necks over their alleged love affair on Tuesday.
The District Magistrate (DM) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) inspected the site and assured speedy justice to the families of the victims. Both the boy and the girl belong to the SC community.
“On the complaint of the boy’s mother, the police on Tuesday booked him under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of an unlawful assembly guilty of an offense committed in the prosecution of a common object), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 Case registered for willful insult and provocation), IPC sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 355 (criminal use of force to any person) and sections 74, 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015. During the investigation, SC/ST Act was also added. On Wednesday, 15 accused were arrested,” said ASP Deependra Nath Choudhary.
The arrested persons are Vinay Kumar (44), Pawan Kumar (20), Rajkumar (24), Mannu (35), Sukhlal (22), Jaswant (27), Jagdish (27), Pasdesi (30), Shyamji (22) , Lalbahadur (23), Sarju Maurya (25), Bheem Singh (21), Krishna Kumar (35), Gangaram Maurya (55) and Ankush Maurya (22) of Singhi village in Basti district, said police.
