Washington:

US President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced $1 billion in new security aid and long-range weapons deployment in Ukraine – assuring an ally of America’s “unprecedented” support in its war with Russia.

The cash approved over the weekend includes $200 million allocated over the weekend from a Russian military shutdown in Ukraine’s besieged capital, Kyiv, and $800 million in new funds from an aid package approved by Congress last week.

“These are direct transfers of equipment from our Defense Department to the Ukrainian military as they fight against this invasion,” said Biden, who called for Ukraine to acquire “extra long-range anti-aircraft systems.” American aid announced.
