He further said that differences exist between India and Pakistan but they need to be addressed. “The United States stands ready to assist as a partner to both,” Price said.

Price’s response came after he was asked by reporters regarding unsavory personal attacks by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto targeting the prime minister. Narendra Modi First in November.

“The fact that we have a partnership with both countries — certainly doesn’t make us want to see a war of words between India and Pakistan,” Price said.

“We have a global strategic partnership with India and a deep partnership with Pakistan. In our mind these relationships are not zero-sum. We do not see them in relation to each other. Each of them is indispensable to us and to promoting and furthering our shared goals with India, the shared goals that we have with Pakistan, the shared goals that all three of us share,” Price said.

Price, speaking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments on the war in Ukraine, said that the US welcomes PM Modi’s statements where he urged both sides to engage in dialogue and diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine.

“The communique that came out of the G20 also had very similar language – I think it’s a testament to the fact that it was language and it was a call that resonated in this country, in South Asia, in Europe and around the world. The United States certainly welcomes it.

Price also reiterated that India has strong ties with Russia and that the relationship developed because the US was not ready to be India’s partner the way Russia was in the past. He said the equations have changed in the last few decades.
