An American man who tried to steal a truck was shot dead by the truck owner after the thief was tracked by the owner’s Apple AirTag.

US-based San Antonio police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a home in the Brauseview area at around 1 p.m., KSAT reports.

However, before the stolen truck was recovered by the authorities, the owners decided to conduct their own investigation with the help of the airtag left in the vehicle.

According to reports, the unknown owners of the truck discovered it at a shopping center on Southeast Military Drive.

Rather than wait for the police, the truck owners decided to approach the car and confront the suspect.

While it’s unclear what happened, police believe the suspected burglar may have pulled out his own firearm. Reports said the owner of the car shot the suspect in retaliation while they were inside the truck.

In addition, an investigation is underway to determine whether the suspect actually had a weapon when he was attacked, or whether the suspect will face any charges in this matter.
