Gabriel Boric becomes the youngest President of Chile

On 12 March, Gabriel Boric Font became the youngest President of Chile at the age of 36. A graduate of the University of Chile in Legal and Social Sciences, he was a left-wing alumnus leader. The font has been sworn in at the National Congress in Valparaíso, about 100 km from the capital Santiago, and will function until 2026.

The results of the 2022 assembly elections were declared on March 10. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the chief minister’s seats in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. Ukraine-Russia war continues

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the Indian Embassy in Ukraine will be temporarily relocated to Poland. The reason for this is the attacks in the western parts of the country. The situation will be re-assessed later. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved the recruitment of fighters from Syria and elsewhere who wish to volunteer in the war. The Ukrainian government also said that some 20,000 foreigners had joined the country to fight the Russians.

RBI restricts Paytm Payments Bank to accept new customers

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed Paytm Payments Bank to stop opening new accounts with immediate effect. The bank cited “material” concerns and directed Paytm to appoint an IT audit firm. Paytm Payments Bank will be able to take new customers only after the permission of RBI. However, this will happen after reviewing the report of the IT auditor.

Indian missile land in Pakistan

India had accidentally fired a missile at Pakistan on 9 March, which it said was due to a ‘technical fault’. The missile was being tested as part of routine maintenance. However, Pakistan asked India’s charge d’affaires in Islamabad to stage a protest and warned of consequences.
