Uproar in Maharashtra Assembly after Shiv Sena MLA ‘mocking’ PM Modi, apologizes Mumbai News – Times of India

Mumbai: BJP leader devendra fadnavis charged on Wednesday Shiv Sena MLA Bhaskar Jadhav Proceedings came to a standstill in the assembly as Prime Minister Narendra Modi mocked and made some gestures, prompting sharp reactions from opposition legislators.
Jadhav later apologized for the re-convening of the House after two adjournments, saying hand gestures were his natural way of speaking and he did not use any unparliamentary words against the prime minister.
Jadhav made the remarks, as alleged by Fadnavis, when discussions on calling attention notices on power issues were going on.
Speaking in the Lower House, BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar sought to know why state power minister Nitin Raut “backed down” from his promise to waive off electricity charges for customers up to 100 units.
Raut recalled that he had only said that tariff waiver would be considered. However, since the electricity department provided uninterrupted supply to the customers during the lockdown period, tariff would have to be paid for the same.
The Power Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also made some promises to the farmers, but did not fulfill them.
This time, Jadhavi Allegedly imitated Narendra Modi (which he later said was created by Modi in 2014) as a prime ministerial candidate.
Taking strong objection, Fadnavis said that Jadhav’s comments and gestures about the Prime Minister will not be tolerated.
The BJP MLA joined Fadnavis and said that Jadhav has insulted the Prime Minister.
The BJP MLAs stood on their feet and demanded an apology from Jadhav.
Deputy Speaker Narhari Jhirwal said he would investigate whether Jadhav made any unparliamentary remarks and decided accordingly.
Water Resources Minister Jayant Patil (NCP) and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab (Shiv Sena) said that leaders of all parties should be respected in the legislature.
Jadhav said that he did not make any comment against the PM.
“I only talked about what Narendra Modi had said in 2014 when he (BJP’s) was the prime ministerial candidate,” the MLA said.
Fadnavis alleged that Jadhav was taking the matter lightly.
“How can someone withdraw offensive gestures?” Fadnavis asked Jadhav to apologize.
As the commotion continued, the Chairman adjourned the proceedings for 20 minutes. The House was again adjourned for 15 minutes as BJP members continued to raise slogans demanding an apology from Jadhav.
When the assembly was called again after the second adjournment, the BJP members again stood on their feet and demanded that Jadhav be suspended from the House.
As the protests continued, Jadhav said that he has not made any unparliamentary remarks against the PM.
“The way I talk is such that I inadvertently make a hand gesture. I apologize if my expressions have hurt the members of the House,” he said.
