PRAYGARAJ: Intensifying the crackdown on mafia don-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his family members, a joint team of police, revenue department and administration on Wednesday attached three properties belonging to the don and his wife under the Gangster Act.
The properties are located in Rahimabad, Akbarpur and Shaha aka Peepalgav villages of the district.
The attached properties are worth around Rs 76 crore and are located in the three villages under the limits of Sadar tehsil of Prayagraj district.
With this, senior police officers on Wednesday claimed to have attached properties worth more than Rs 100 crore belonging to Atiq and his family members in Sangam city alone.
Senior superintendent of police (Prayagraj) Shailesh Kumar Pandey told TOI, “The joint team, after checking and verifying various records and subsequent investigations, came to know about three more properties of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his wife in the district. These assets were accumulated through illegal means in the name of Atiq Ahmad and his wife.”
After the order of the district magistrate (Prayagraj), the joint teams on Wednesday attached all the three properties — while Atiq owned 0.05240 hectare land at Raheemabad, his wife Shaista Parveen owned 1.8350 hectare land at Akbarpur Mirzapur and 1.9450 hectare at Peepalgav aka Shaha village. The joint team also installed boards pertaining to attachment of the properties at the sites, he added.
The police restricted the entry of the locals towards these sites while carrying out property attachment exercises under section 14 (1) of the Gangster Act.
Police said that Atiq, leader of interstate 227 gang, has a total of 96 cases registered against him in different police stations of the state. He is currently lodged at Sabarmati jail of Gujarat.
Before this, a joint team of police, revenue department and administration had on August 12 attached his six-bigha (1.4602 hectare) land in Koilaha village under the Gangster Act in Kaushambi district . This attached land was worth around Rs 24 crore.
The SSP said, “Police have attached properties worth more than Rs 100 crore of don Atiq Ahmad and his family members in the past three years.”
Inspector general of police (Prayagraj range) Dr. Rakesh Singh told TOI, “A fresh exercise has also been launched by the Prayagraj police to find out other properties of gangster Atiq Ahmad in states like Delhi, Maharashtra, MP, etc., that have been accumulated through illegal means.”
He added that a dedicated team of police officers has been assigned the task to identify the properties of the jailed mafia in other states and districts for further action.
