The Mela police tested around 2,000 policemen from January 1 to 10 and seven of them turned out to be positive. He has been kept in isolation camp till he recovers.
Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Dr Rajeev Narayan Mishra told TOI, “Seven policemen have tested positive for Covid-19 infection in the last 10 days. They have been kept in isolation so that other policemen and visitors do not get infected.”
He said that all the seven policemen had complained of mild symptoms. “From the constable to the additional SP, who has been assigned duty in the mela premises, around 5,000 policemen will be tested.”
However, he claimed that all preventive measures have been initiated and wearing of masks has been made mandatory for all policemen at Reserve Police Line premises, offices, Mela police stations and police outposts. The Mela Police is also focusing on sanitization in the campus.
Meanwhile, the health department officials have started testing the employees, officials of various government departments and members of various organizations who have arrived for Magh Mela duty or camping at the Mela premises from January 1. Both antigen and RT-PCR methods in the MELA complex. Around 300 to 400 samples are being taken daily.
With lakhs of devotees, pilgrims, saints and seers arriving at the fair starting January 14 on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the Mela Police is emphasizing on COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of masks, social distancing and use of sanitisers. .
The number of visitors is likely to climb manifold on six main snan days — Makar Sankranti, Paush Purnima, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchmi, Maghi Purnima and Maha Shivratri.
“With January 14 approaching, the intensity of testing and collection of samples will increase manifold in the coming days and more health teams will be deployed in the Mela premises for collection of samples,” a health official said. There will be a separate Static Kovid-19 Testing Center / Primary Treatment Center and Antigen Testing Facility in the fair.
