Noida: Uttar Pradesh has received foreign investment intentions of over Rs 17,000 crore from various companies during the COVID-19 pandemic, government officials said on Thursday.

He said that overall, the state received 96 investment intentions, including proposals from domestic and foreign entities, worth around Rs 66,000 crore since April 2020.

UP Industries Minister Satish Mahana said foreign investors include some big projects from countries like US, UK, South Korea, Japan, France and Germany.

The cabinet minister, while talking to a group of journalists, credited the pro-industry policies of the BJP government in helping the state rank second in the country in terms of ease of doing business.

In total, we have received (foreign) investment of Rs 17,231 crore, which we are working on, said UP’s Industrial and Infrastructure Development Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Mittal.

When asked about investments during the pandemic that started in March last year, Minister Mahana said, Uttar Pradesh has received investment from companies from outside the country as well. There are many companies that have shown interest, taken land and started their operations.

He said that the problems of law and order, power supply and government assistance, which were earlier in the state, have been resolved under the Yogi Adityanath-led regime.

Talking about foreign investment during the current pandemic, Mittal said that there are 24 foreign units which have shown interest in setting up business in the state.

Of these, 22 units have a value of more than Rs 100 crore and the investment intent they have shown is Rs 16,653 crore. Mittal said the other two units, which are worth less than Rs 100 crore, have shown intent to invest Rs 78 crore.

Mahana said these foreign companies would set up projects in different parts of UP like Chitrakoot and Barabanki in the east, while Noida and Agra in the western part of the state.
