UP floods: Situation likely to worsen as IMD predicts rain in 20 districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain in more than 20 districts of Purvanchal and Terai regions of Uttar Pradesh in the next 24 hours. The forecast has worried the administration as most of these districts are already affected by floods due to incessant rains for the past few days. The situation is expected to worsen with the possibility of incessant rains. However, the Meteorological Agency has said that there is no possibility of heavy rain at the moment.

IMD said that the districts which will receive rainfall include Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shravasti, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Ayodhya, Basti, Sultanpur, Azamgarh, Ambedkar Nagar, Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar and Maharajganj.

According to the IMD’s assessment, a cyclonic storm is forming in the Bay of Bengal and its effect will be visible in North India in the next 48 hours.

While issuing the weather forecast for the next five days, the IMD said that light to moderate rains will continue in the Terai districts adjoining Nepal. However, there will be no rain in West Uttar Pradesh and Bundelkhand regions.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the flood situation in East Uttar Pradesh may worsen as there is a possibility of heavy rains in the region on August 15. Various districts in the eastern parts of the state have been facing floods for the past one week. Prayagraj and Varanasi are among the most flood affected districts due to rain.

It has rained in 9 districts in the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall has been recorded in Gorakhpur at 36.1 mm. Ballia and Bahraich recorded 9 mm and Sultanpur 2.4 mm.

Most of the cities of Uttar Pradesh recorded the day’s maximum temperature below 35 degree Celsius. The night temperature recorded is 24 to 28 degree Celsius.
