Sripal alleged that Ramsaran, the priest of the Santridas Kutti temple located near the village, had illicit relations with his wife.

A local court here sentenced a 75-year-old temple priest to life imprisonment for killing a married woman with whom he allegedly had an illicit relationship.

District public prosecutor Munnu Lal Mishra said that in May 2020, Shripal, a resident of Badrauli village in Kaiserganj, had complained about the disappearance of his 55-year-old wife Shivka.

Sripal alleged that Ramsaran, the priest of the Santridas Kutti temple near the village, was having an illicit relationship with his wife and used to frequently visit her house.

When the relatives opposed this, the coming and going stopped.

However, on May 23, 2020, Shivaka went missing from her home, and her body, partially eaten by animals, was found near a pond in the vicinity of the temple on May 28.

In the charge sheet filed in the court, the police said that Ramsaran killed Shivka by hitting her on the head with an iron rod.

After hearing both the sides, the court of District Judge Utkarsh Chaturvedi on April 29 held Ramsaran guilty of killing Shivka and hiding the body. Mishra said he was sentenced to life imprisonment and asked to pay a fine of Rs 51,000.

The court said that in case of non-payment of fine, Ramsaran will have to undergo additional imprisonment of 15 months.

The court ordered that 50 percent of the fine amount be given to the relatives of the deceased.
